Ever since the genius invention of infusing CBD into a delicious gummy treat, people everywhere have been asking, “How many CBD gummies should I eat?”

The answer isn’t as cut and dry as you may think.

You see, there are a lot of variables at play when it comes to dosing CBD gummies. And unless you know what those variables are, you may be eating too much, or not eating enough, CBD gummies to begin with.

How to dose CBD gummies

There are 4 key variables to consider when dosing CBD gummies:

  2. Your body’s chemistry and metabolism

That said, there are no official guidelines regarding how many CBD gummies you should eat.

But here’s the thing… the FDA has only approved one plant-derived, cannabinoid-based product, known as Epidolex, and some experts have been following their CBD dosage chart [²].

For example, the starting dose for Epidiolex is 2.5 mg per kilogram of body weight twice daily. That’s roughly 5mg per day.

Patients can increase their CBD dose after one week to 10mg per day [³]. But keep in mind that Epidiolex is used to treat rare forms of epilepsy in children as young as 2 years old. So, while 5 to 10 mg might seem like a lot, we have to consider the weight of the child and the condition they’re addressing.

Body weight has a lot to do with how much CBD gummies you should eat. We understand that some studies have explored the use of 1500mg of CBD in one day, but scientists and doctors were present to monitor blood and enzyme levels during those studies.

A good rule of thumb is to start with a 30 mg - 50 mg CBD gummy. If you weigh about 120-150 lbs, that’s a good dose for you to maintain the effect throughout the day.

If you weigh more, you can increase the dosage proportionately. These are rough guidelines. Remember that everyone is different and this is not an exact science.

Can you take too much CBD?

Yes, you can take too much CBD, just like you can drink too much water.

In fact, one 56-year-old male was rushed to the hospital after consuming CBD gummies. He exhibited weird behaviors, slurred speech, and vomiting [].

It took a full medical team to keep him conscious. But by morning, he was normal again. Doctors quickly determined that the man consumed two packages of CBD gummies, totaling 370 mg of CBD. The serving size on the package was only 30 mg. 

What’s more, the man ate the gummies like he would a regular snack, rather than a medicinal treat.

According to the report, “He felt the products were healthy and safe based on packaging and therefore did not believe they would have any adverse effects [].”

So…

Are CBD gummies safe?

Yes! High quality CBD gummies from reputable CBD brands are safe. 

We understand that the story above is alarming, but there’s one part we left out… The 56-year-old male bought his CBD gummies from a gas station [].

CBD Gummies side effects

Here’s the good news… The studies that utilize 1500mg of CBD in one day didn’t see any alarming adverse effects [].
